After a day of exploring Kauai for photographic compositions, Shelley and I settled on Poipu for photographing the setting sun. Some nights sit you with your camera pointed at a composition. The waves are right. There are just enough clouds in the sky with your frame. The breeze cools you as you watch the setting sun. And at the last moment, as the sun is sinking closer to the horizon, you realize that another cloud bank as cut off the light that is needed for the sky to ignite in your carefully composed photograph. Then you just sit there watching the waves and setting sun. Take in a deep breath and think to yourself what a beautiful day.
