This year is the first year in a few years that Shelley and I were able to make it up to the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. The Squaw Creek Eagle Days is always the first weekend of December. This year it was the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. This year’s Eagle counts were low, around 48 total birds. This was mainly do to the lack of cold weather further north, which is needed to push migration further south. As I am writing this, on December 18th, we are having our coldest day in December a balmy 10 degrees, with wind chills around 0. With the weather getting colder the Eagles will be moving further south. Hopefully the temperatures in and around Kansas City will warn up a little and the migration will pause for a few months near Parkville, until February.
Here are my favorite photographs from this years Eagle days.
