After returning to the room in the Thunderbird Lodge Shelley was awake and ready to go breakfast at the Harvey House Café, located in the Bright Angel Lodge. So, we headed down the rim trail to breakfast.
Once, one was off of the trail the snow was every bit of three feet deep. The photograph to the right was taken from inside of the Harvey House Cafe at the Bright Angel Lodge at our table for breakfast that first morning a the Grand Canyon. The Harvey House serves traditional American breakfast foods. They also have gluten-free options, which is great for those of us with wheat and gluten allergies. Their prices are reasonable. You can see their breakfast menu by going to the following link https://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/content/uploads/2018/01/HH-Cafe-Breakfast-9.17.pdf.
The Harvey House was once a centerpiece of the American transportation system. There were Harvey House Cafes in at least 84 locations that were railroad adjacent at the peak of the company. It was started in 1876 and ended in 1968. As passenger travel decline by rail, so did the Harvey houses.
The photograph below shows the outside of the Bright Angel Lodge on the rim facing side of the building.
